October Favorites
What a month! I always forget how wonderful October is. Fall leaves, football, pumpkin and squash, long walks, and the start of the last quarter of the year! This October was especially great here in ATX with a winning football season, ACL, and more.
Reflecting back, I realize just how much seasonal living and intentionality play a role in overall well-being. When we align our minds and bodies with the season, we can feel so much more grounded. Here’s a little of what I was exploring and loving in October to help me feel my best:
Insight Timer & Meditation Moments: I’ve been wanting to become more intentional about meditation and finding stillness for years. In a life filled with tasks, travel, and endless content, taking time to pause and recenter is crucial.
This episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy by Mark Hyman gave me the final push to try it. I’ve been spending more time in the sauna to support detox pathways, so what better time to habit-stack? So low and behold I downloaded the Insight Timer app and have been loving their guided meditations! After a session, I feel calm, with my mind clear of the endless to-do lists for work, home, and more. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
Butternut Squash Curry: My adaptation of this recipe by Ambitious Kitchen (one of my fav healthier recipe developers with GF/DF/RSF recipe options) quickly became a weekly staple this month. Using in-season produce like butternut squash, carrots, and kale with rich coconut milk and coconut aminos made for an easy weeknight meal we LOVED.
The first time, I stayed close to the recipe but added more ginger (great for gut health!), left out the cauliflower and spinach, and served it with grilled chicken. The second time, I tailored it further: omitted the chickpeas to lighten the starch, cooked veggies in ghee, poached shrimp in coconut milk, and added fried paneer and kale. This dish, or any curry, is perfect for using up what’s in the fridge!
Outdoor Meals & Mindful Eating
With cooler weather in Texas, I’ve been taking my breakfast and lunch outside more often. It’s such a great way to unplug from work and my phone and truly savor each meal. Mindful eating—focusing on one task and enjoying every bite—has helped me regulate my nervous system and feel more present.
I hope these highlights bring some inspiration to your wellness journey as we head into November! If you’re feeling ready to take your health to the next level—or if you’re seeking support with building sustainable, holistic habits—I’d love to connect! My coaching is all about meeting you where you are and guiding you toward the lifestyle you envision.
